Hi + Hello

Happy Week 42! We are slow (or fast) creeping into the end of the year, with Halloween, Day Light Savings (fall back, yes!), Election Day, Gratitude Day, and Christmas right around the corner so OF COURSE I’m already thinking about 2027. First of all, I can’t believe that’s the number. I know it’s right but also, it’s can’t be. Remember when it was turning 2000? I do! And we’re saying that was 27 years ago? That cannot be! As I get over my shock and ground myself to this part of reality that we all share, I continue to think about ways I can make my future, my present, my presence, my existence better, brighter, and more beautiful. In the more-than-27 years of my life, I’ve found pockets of joy in several places but recently, I’ve been feeling pushed and nudged to make it all come together into One Big Fabulous Life. These nudges are uncomfortable and I’d be lying if I said I welcome them, but I’ll consider the buffering project useful to my end goal: to enjoy life in it’s entirety, to live an integrated and intentional life, to find and feel success, stability, and security, and to continually find myself in comforting community where I feel wanted and welcomed, just for who I am.

🔧 Tips, Tricks, and Tidbits

Keep a Small Victories List. A Small Victories List is the flip side of To-Do List. To-do lists remind you of what needs to be done. Small Victories Lists show you what you did. Did you do it well? Doesn’t matter. Did you get it done? Yes? Then write it down. It’s so easy to forget all that we do over the course of a day. There are so many crucially significant things we do daily that we don’t consider important, especially if it’s not “productive” or income-producing. Besides checked off tasks, Small Victories Lists also boasts the participation or completion of things you feel good about. Got to work on time? Small victory. Made it outside for a quick walk? Small victory. Made your bed? Big victory. Didn’t escalate that already contentious conversation, going high like Michelle Obama said and not kicking ‘em in the face when they went low? Major victory. The point is, unlike to-do lists, we get to decide what constitutes a victory and what deserves a little (or a lot of) commotion. I’d encourage being liberal here; anything can be a victory, and frankly, we all need a win every so often, even if it is super small.

Unrelated Musings

More on those nudges… I’m a firm believer that we are nudged in a particular direction on occasion. I like to believe that the nudges’ destination is personal satisfaction. It’s a place you’ve thought about, want to be, and is born of your subconscious and internal desire. Our self-conscious conscience may have some opposition to that destination, or at least, the work it takes to get there, and that’s where those nudges come in. Like bumpers on a bowling lane or the bumper cars themselves, they reroute you, sometimes gently and sometimes a bit more forcefully. They may look like shifts in circumstance or context, something outside of yourself that calls you to the carpet before you planned to be there. It speeds up or slows down a timeline, and inserts itself where it has decided you need some help getting into position. I like this belief because, otherwise, we might feel like life and circumstances are happening to us, and not for our good. In this reality, life and circumstances are arranging themselves for our good, even if the nudge bumps us up against a wall and we endure some growing pains. I’m choosing to believe it’s all conspiring for my good, even despite myself. So, I’ll take the nudges, and trust that I’m being guided - and tested - to give myself a real chance at living that One Big Fabulous Life.

My favorite possible self writes another blog post in approximately one week! My mantra says I follow through, so I must! See you there!
