Hi + Hello

Happy Week 27! We’re officially in Q3 and the second half of the year. We’ve survived extreme cold and extreme heat, some celebratory occasions, and all the other stuff that is happening in the background. Twenty plus years of conditioning tells me summer is for taking things down a notch, but for some of us, it’s a great time to heat things up, dig in, and plant the seeds of the fruit we want to bear come fall and winter. No matter which we decide, I hope that we get the rest or the restart we’ve called for.

✍🏾 #RandomSessionNotes

1. Keep your focus on today.

2. Notice what your energy has room for and respect it.

3. There's who you are and what you're capable of. Depending on the circumstances, we can find ourselves exercising capabilities far outside what's typical for us.

🔧 Tips, Tricks, and Tidbits

There are moments in life that introduce us to parts of ourselves we've never met before. This theme keeps popping up in sessions so, though it was first mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the distinction between our core being and our capabilities is worth exploring again.

To recap, our core is who we are at our purest: our values, character, beliefs, and natural way of being. Our capabilities, on the other hand, are what we're able to do aka the range of behaviors we may find ourselves engaging in under the right (or wrong) circumstances. Extreme stress, grief, love, fear, or necessity can expand that range in ways that surprise us, revealing remarkable strength or unsettling reactions we never imagined ourselves capable of, some of which may not reflect our core. Recognizing the difference helps us hold ourselves accountable without confusing what we're capable of in a given moment with the entirety of who we are.

😏 Unrelated Musings

I’m believing more and more that life is a big game of set up. And not ‘set up’ in a way where we’re ‘set up’ to play ourselves, but in the sense that, when we look back, we see how things that seemed inconsequential at the time actually set us up for something good later on. It’s the serendipitous moments and coincidences and the things we can’t quite explain. When I look back, while there are many choices I made on purpose, there are even more circumstances outside my awareness that made those choices possible. And if it happened in my past, I can only believe that, as I continue to make choices and concerted efforts, they are happening for my future. There are things happening now that will later reveal themselves as checkpoints on my journey. They’re likely the conversations and experiences I won’t see coming. Said in The Alchemist, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.“ Paul Coelho may have said that, but I have a feeling the sentiment was said and shared long before him. And, at this stage in life, I’ve had enough experiences where it feels true enough to call on as a helpful reminder when things feel otherwise. So bring on the serendipity, coincidences, and inexplicable moments. I’m ready to see how they all come together to surprise me with their goodness.

My favorite possible self writes another blog post in approximately one week! My mantra says I follow through, so I must! See you there!
