Hi + Hello

Happy Week 26! It’s the last week of the first half of the year! It’s the perfect time to reflect on how you treated the first half, how the first half treated you, and to determine what may need some tweaking for a *insert adjective of your choosing* second half. Life happens - good, bad, and otherwise - and we have the power to impact life too. If the first half was amazing, how did you contribute to that? If the first half left something to be desired, what is there to be done in the second half to make sure you don’t feel that way again? Our participation is mandatory; the seeds we plant grow, and the seeds we don’t wither away. What do you want your garden to look like at the year’s end? Trust you are equipped to make that progress.

✍🏾 #RandomSessionNotes

1. Regularly ask yourself: 1- What's in my control? And then, 2- What am I responsible for?

2. Identify healthy ways to self-regulate and self-soothe.

3. You are allowed to celebrate yourself at any time for any reason.

🔧 Tips, Tricks, and Tidbits

We're living in the garden we've been tending for years. Whether we realize it or not, we're gardening every day: planting seeds, tilling the soil, pulling weeds, and watching the evidence of our work sprout into flowers or weeds of its own.

What we plant today, and what we consistently nourish, shows up in our future. Our thoughts, habits, boundaries, actions, and self-talk all contribute to the health and growth of our gardens, or to their decline. Some seeds grow into confidence, peace, and fulfillment. Others grow into stress, resentment, and regret, crowding out the very things we're hoping will thrive.

It's important to spend time in our gardens and regularly check the conditions - both internal and external - to give our seeds (ourselves) the best opportunity to grow. Sometimes it's the seed. Sometimes it's the soil. Sometimes it's the environment. In every case, we have access to tools, people, and resources that can help us create the conditions for something meaningful and fulfilling to flourish.

Not sure what to plant? Try some of these:

  1. Self-respect

  2. Self-awareness

  3. Patience

  4. Joy

  5. Discipline (whether in your fitness, finances, relationships, or daily habits)

Some things to pull up that may be affecting your garden:

  1. Jealousy

  2. Negative self-talk

  3. Unhelpful comparisons

  4. Avoidance

  5. Resentment

In three to six months, you probably won't remember exactly what you planted or pulled up each day, but you'll know whether your garden looks healthier than it does today. You'll know if you're feeling more confident, more self-aware, and more joyful. The cumulative effect of today's choices is inevitable. You get to decide what you're cultivating now, and what your garden will look like when it's time to harvest.

😏 Unrelated Musings

Dreamers, it’s time to stop hiding. As a self-identified and astrologically-identified dreamer, it’s one of my favorite things to do. I’m dreamt some dreams that I have never said aloud. My and my journals/notes app/post-its hold a lot of internal thoughts and desires. But if I’m honest with myself, the dreams I’ve shared have been the ones I’ve been the most consistent with and kept up with the longest. Some people say to tell no one and do the work, while others encourage having someone or a few people or a whole bunch of people to keep you accountable. I don’t know that there’s a hard and fast rule but I know for the people like me, those who tend to dream the dream and focus less on doing the do, sometimes having people in your corner checking on you and your progress, or lack thereof, does the trick. We might have to dream out loud, do out loud, try out loud, and while that sentiment gives me heart palpitations, today’s environment is telling me it’s necessary. To have an impact, people need to know you want to make an impact, people need to feel the impact, and you can’t do that alone, dreaming your dream in the safety of your solitude. Dream your dream, do your dream, live your dream, and invite the people to experience your dream, especially if that is your dream.

My favorite possible self writes another blog post in approximately one week! My mantra says I follow through, so I must! See you there!
