"Couple mistakes here and there, not always right. But I'm always real, that's how I sleep at night."

Hi + Hello
Happy Week 25! I feel like I’ve been saying this repeatedly but shout out to the city of NY! Another unprecedented time was had by so many: the Knicks parade, Juneteenth, the pure joy of community and celebration, no violence! I did some frolicking outside and I have few regrets, hehe! The palpability of this special season will pass, as it does with all good things, but I’ll look at it as foreshadowing, a tell of what the rest of summer and the rest of 2026 could feel like. We had a rough winter and I’m not saying this totally made up for it, but it’s a reminder that things might look bleak for a while, like better times keep getting pushed back, but if we hold out, they will come back around, and perhaps with a beautiful vengeance. Despite the dark moments, peace and joy are ours.

🔧 Tips, Tricks, and Tidbits
Working theory: we operate within the trifecta of our principles, our core being, and our capabilities. Hear me out:
Our principles are the values, beliefs, and ideals that guide our decisions and reflect who we aspire to be. They serve as a compass. Living in alignment with them can sometimes require conscious effort and intentional choices. Our core being refers to our fundamental nature, who we are at our purest. Think our instincts, temperament, and natural inclinations. While our core influences how we tend to think, feel, and respond, it doesn't always align perfectly with our principles, which can create tension otherwise known as opportunities for growth, self-awareness, and change. Lastly, our capabilities are the skills, capacities, and abilities that allow us to act in the world. Importantly, being capable of something does not necessarily mean it reflects our principles or our core. We may find ourselves doing things we never imagined - both admirable (a bonus) and regrettable (a heavy mental anchor) - depending on the circumstances we face.
IMO, together, our principles, core, and capabilities converge to inform our behavior at all times. Their dynamism is ever present. Understanding the differences between what we value, what comes naturally to us, and what we are capable of helps explain the complexity, and sometimes the contradictions, of human behavior, especially within the context of the complexities of the situations and environments (and the world) we find ourselves in.

😏 Unrelated Musings
We might need to say goodbye to old places and start going to new places. It’s always a sad day when I hear of a beloved restaurant or bar or store I frequented has closed its doors. When it does, though, it forces me to try a new place, and have a new experience, more aligned with who I am today. This Juneteenth weekend reminded me of that. There were no shortage of options of where to celebrate, and while I won’t say they weren’t all created equally (quiet as its kept, I heard some were better organized than others), some were more aligned with my spirit, in terms of the vibe, the music, and the crowd. I don’t think I’m alone in holding on to the old days and doing the old things to experience familiar comforting feelings, but like in other areas of life, if I want to get something different or something more, I have to do something different, something more. That’s a scary thought for me. Walking my old streets, I realized just how much I’ve changed (read: grown) in the years since I lived there (and thank God!). Going back brought me back, and it was nice overall, but I’d prefer to stay in the present, and even better, look ahead to an even better future I’m actively creating right now.
My favorite possible self writes another blog post in approximately one week! My mantra says I follow through, so I must! See you there!
