Hi + Hello

Happy Week 40! This comes to you a day late and few dollars short because I spent my Monday on a self-prescribed, self-programmed, and self-funded retreat. I spent the day in fresh air, fewer sirens (only 1!), had some new experiences - I knew this but now I’m sure: I am not a cold plunge girlie - and literally let the tasks of daily life await me back in the city. I am convinced it was useful, rejuvenating, and restorative, probably because I let the stress of work life and city life and daily life exit my brain (for the most part- I’m still an upgrade in process). So will I do it again? Absolutely. The cold plunge too? Probably.

✍🏾 #RandomSessionNotes

1. Like in video games, when we advance to a new level, we get to experience new strengths and new challenges.

2. Organizational strategies and writing things down are not cheating. And if they are, cheat.

3. Some people simply behave badly, with no acknowledgement, no accountability, no apologies. They do not have to be your people.

🔧 Tips, Tricks, and Tidbits

Growth often comes with some tension. Changing, stretching, and “becoming” often disrupt what has become familiar and comfortable, even when the change is good for us. We may outgrow routines, relationships, expectations, or even versions of ourselves that once fit, and adjusting to what comes next can feel awkward, uncertain, and frankly, painful. That discomfort doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong. Growing pains are still pains, but they can also be proof of our shifting priorities in pursuit of our own betterment.

😏 Unrelated Musings

I thought about a lot of things on my “retreat.” One of them was the idea that as we move through life, we gather puzzle pieces, and everyday, we’re adding, subtracting, and shifting the pieces to put together our very own masterpiece. We have thoughts and feelings and experiences, each of which has a place as we ultimately shape our lives. We may expect some scenes and parts of the puzzle to look one way, but they don’t. We may be trying to complete the picture but a piece is missing. We may have gathered some participation pieces that we’re sure we excluded from the final presentation, but they’re needed to build and create the image we actually want to see. The picture is continuously being added to, with some pieces being interchangeable or upgradable. Ultimately, we’re creating a full and complete picture that represents us fully, in all our complexities, and in all our wonder.

My favorite possible self writes another blog post in approximately one week! My mantra says I follow through, so I must! See you there!
